Learners can now access personalized support through an AI-powered chatbot on the Skill India Digital portal, available 24/7 in English, Hindi, and Hinglish via WhatsApp. The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in collaboration with Meta, has launched an AI Assistant for the Skill India Mission and established five Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR). These centers are set to open in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Jodhpur, Chennai, and Kanpur.
The AI-powered chatbot, developed using Meta’s open-source Llama model, aims to enhance the learning experience on the Skill India Digital (SID) portal. The AI assistant will simplify information access, improve learning outcomes, and offer seamless support to students through an intuitive digital interface.
Sarvam AI, the technical partner for this project, will handle the development and deployment of the chatbot, which will be piloted for six months. The chatbot, integrated into the SID Portal, will be available on WhatsApp, supporting English, Hindi, and Hinglish with voice capabilities. It will assist users in discovering course information, engaging in interactive Q&A sessions, accessing lecture summaries, and exploring skilling centers and job listings.
Skillveri, the technical partner for the CoEs, will supply advanced VR and MR tools, curriculum, and trained professionals, providing learners and instructors with immersive and interactive learning experiences.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, stated, “By integrating technologies like AI, VR, and MR into the Skill India ecosystem, we are democratizing access to cutting-edge technologies, enabling personalized learning pathways for the youth.”
Shivnath Thukral, Vice President and Head of Public Policy at Meta India, added, “These collaborations with the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship reflect our commitment to bridging the gap between technology and education. By leveraging advanced technologies like the Open-Source Llama, we aim to empower students, educators, and entrepreneurs with the tools to thrive in today’s digital-first world.”
