Tata Group to Generate 500,000 Manufacturing Jobs, with 47,000 in Assam and Gujarat

The Tata Group has unveiled plans to create 500,000 manufacturing jobs across India over the next five years, aiming to drive economic growth through sectors like semiconductors, electric vehicles, batteries, and related industries. This initiative includes 47,000 new jobs in Assam and Gujarat, which will significantly benefit the local economies.

During a recent event by the Indian Foundation for Quality Management, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran highlighted the importance of creating manufacturing jobs for India to achieve its vision of becoming a developed nation.

As part of its semiconductor ambitions, Tata Group has partnered with PSMC to establish a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat. This project, with a massive investment of up to INR 91,000 crores (~US$11 billion), is expected to create over 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs in the region, with construction starting this year.

In Assam, Tata Electronics is setting up a greenfield semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Jagiroad, with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore. The facility is poised to generate over 27,000 direct and indirect jobs and will focus on advanced technologies like Wire Bond, Flip Chip, and Integrated Systems Packaging (ISP), crucial for electric vehicles and other key applications in India.

The Assam facility’s construction will commence this year, with the first phase becoming operational by mid-2025, marking a significant milestone in the industrialisation of North-East India.

As the global semiconductor market heads towards a projected US$1 trillion by 2030, with Indian demand expected to surpass US$110 billion, Tata Group’s ventures into semiconductor manufacturing will position India as a key player in the global supply chain, enhancing its role in AI-led digital transformations.
